Yangtze Dunes
Yangtze Dunes at Lan Hai International Golf Club near Shanghai, China, represents our first project in Asia.
A change in ownership prompted a review of the club’s facilities and a stated goal of re-positioning the club amongst the top echelon of clubs in Asia. A fundamental component of this is to improve the quality of the golf course. Originally a Jack Nicklaus signature design, the course plays over rolling sand dunes and features a number of interesting design features.
Our redesign focused on improving the green complexes and bunkering both from an aesthetic and strategic perspective, which were a weakness of the original design.
OCCM were engaged as the architects in 2017 with Ashley Mead acting as the lead designer. The redesigned course, which opened for play in 2018, is unique course in mainland China with holes winding through artificial sand dunes and promoting walking golf – all 6 kilometres of cart paths being removed as part of our redesign. The course offers a firm test for the very best players while offering members a fun and varied test of golf.
