Bonnie Doon
Bonnie Doon is a Sydney dunes course next door to The Lakes. Both are built on a base of deep sand, which is perfect golfing terrain.
The course was previously cramped but the ability to build two new holes – the long par 5 14th and the 125 metre par 3 15th – on previously unused land opened a whole range of possibilities.
The old 4th hole was reversed and turned into the 9th hole, which was subsequently voted by members as their favourite hole on the course.
The highlight of work completed thus far has been the remaking of the three formerly poor short par fours – the now 8th, 12th and 16th holes – and building holes full of options and choices which should vary from day to day depending on the conditions. Given the busy nature of the golf course, the club decided to complete the redesign in four stages over a period of almost a decade. Throughout this period Mike Cocking has acted as the clubs lead designer, firstly with OCCM and now OCM
